In Flight Running - What We Do


Founded in 2004 by Fitness Trainer & Running Coach, Michael Merlino, In Flight Running offers Houston, Texas area runners both group and one on one run coaching programs and services. We also offer online, remote coaching to runners worldwide.  Our programs welcome runners of all ages, skill levels and paces who want to improve their running performance and/or train for any race distance from the 5K to Marathon distance. 

Group training runs and workouts are held in a non-intimidating environment for beginners, yet challenging enough for the most experienced runner. Whether you are learning the sport of running for the very first time or shooting for that elusive, new personal best or Boston qualifying time, we can help!  "Take your running to new heights" with professional coaching and training programs that minimize your risk of injury and get great results.

Since Head Coach Michael Merlino is also a fitness trainer, he takes a holistic approach to running and coaches running from varied perspectives. That's why he includes coaching, seminars, webinars, workshops on running tactics, strength training, cross training, flexibility, injury prevention, nutrition, and race strategies within In Flight running training programs.  Friendly and engaging coaches, staff and members, full fluid support (ice-cold water and Gatorade) during every Saturday group long run, a wide variety of over 300 Houston & Southwest Texas area running routes, coached hill and track workouts, and monthly trail running road trips are just a few reasons Houston area runners love to train with our team.

Training programs are available to prepare runners for race distances from the 5K to the Marathon.  Online training schedules provided to keep our athletes accountable and on track with their training. Training schedules are also accessible via a smartphone app which emails out daily reminders to let each runner know what is on the schedule for the next 2 rolling days.

Weekly member training runs include Tuesday morning and evening interval training (track and hill workouts) to improve running form, efficiency, and pace.  Saturday morning, longer endurance runs are fully supported with ice-cold water and Gatorade every 2 - 2.5 miles along each route.
